Рецепція традицій легенди у творчості Р. Сауті

Abstract

UA: Стаття розглядає вплив легенди на формування романтичної естетики, жанрової системи й картини світу у творчості Р. Сауті. Звернення письменника до легендарних героїв сприяє створенню історичної панорами минулого. Сюжети в баладах Р. Сауті переважно будуються на конфлікті, зумовленому християнськими таїнствами. У зображенні фантастичних образів Р. Сауті спирається на народні традиції, особливо у створенні портрета персонажів, але додає психологічних відтінків до зображення їхньої поведінки. Персонажами ліро-епічних творів Р. Сауті є непересічні особистості, які можуть бути позитивними або негативними, але головна їхня риса – незвичайність. У створенні образів персонажів у баладах митця покладено принцип контрасту ідеальної зовнішності та злочинної душі. Письменник розробляє тему роздвоєння свідомості героя-злочинця.

EN: The article considers the influence of the legend on the formation of romantic aesthetics, genre system and picture of the world in the works by R. Southey. The writer’s appeal to the legendary heroes contributes to the creation of a historical panorama of the past. The plots in R. Southey’s ballads are mainly based on the conflict caused by the Christian sacraments. In depicting fantastic images, R. Southey relies on folk traditions, especially in creating the characters’ portrait, but adds psychological nuances to the depiction of their behavior. The characters of R. Southey’s lyrical and epic works are extraordinary personalities who can be positive or negative, but their main feature is unusualness. The principle of contrast of ideal appearance and criminal soul is laid down in the creation of images of characters in the artist’s ballads. The writer develops the theme of the bifurcation of the consciousness of the hero-criminal.
