EN: The relevance of accurate assessment of electrical energy losses is determined by their significant impact on the efficiency, reliability, and economic performance of external power supply networks. The problem is becoming increasingly important due to the development of distributed generation, renewable energy sources, Smart Grid technologies, changes in load patterns, and the need to improve energy efficiency. For Ukraine, this issue is particularly relevant under wartime conditions, when damage to power lines, substations, and generating facilities causes changes in network configuration, redistribution of power flows, increased loading of individual elements, and operation under non-standard conditions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the structure of electrical energy losses and existing methods for their calculation in distributed external power supply networks, as well as to develop a generalized approach to selecting the most appropriate calculation method depending on network configuration, operating conditions, available input data, and required accuracy. The study uses methods of analysis, comparison, and systematization of scientific publications, technical standards, and methodological approaches to electrical energy loss assessment. The structure of losses is analyzed with consideration of technical and non-technical components. The main factors affecting the magnitude of losses are identified, including the parameters and length of power lines, transformer characteristics, voltage level, load magnitude and profile, network configuration, conductor temperature, environmental conditions, and the presence of distributed generation. The main approaches to loss calculation are systematized, including methods based on steady-state calculations, power flow analysis, load parameters, actual measurement data, equivalent network parameters, and statistical approaches. Their advantages and limitations are considered. It is established that simplified methods can be effectively applied for preliminary assessments, while detailed power flow calculations provide higher accuracy for complex networks and variable operating conditions. The use of actual measurement data makes it possible to improve the reliability of loss estimation and account for changes in network operating conditions. A generalized approach to selecting the most appropriate calculation method is proposed, taking into account the complexity and configuration of the network, operating conditions, availability and quality of input data, and the required accuracy of the results. The obtained results can be used to assess the energy efficiency of distribution networks, optimize operating modes, justify modernization and reconstruction measures, and improve the reliability and resilience of external power supply systems, particularly under conditions of infrastructure damage and transformation of the Ukrainian power system. |
