EN: The paper addresses the urgent scientific and practical task of improving freight transportation efficiency and expanding the scope of wagon flow routing across railway networks. Methodological principles for calculating the train formation plan (TFP) frequently rely on simplified classical models aimed exclusively at minimizing station accumulation and processing costs, thereby neglecting complex section movement kinematics. This study demonstrates that a significant potential for increasing transportation efficiency lies in accounting for train categorization and section speed differentiation within automated management systems. The proposed approach integrates the difference in section speeds of through and local freight trains directly into the structure of the mathematical objective function during the automated optimization stage, rather than utilizing it as an isolated post-factum adjustment, allowing a more accurate reflection of modern railway infrastructure operations. To evaluate the practical feasibility of the developed mathematical apparatus, comprehensive simulation modeling was performed on a network railway polygon using an advanced calculation method specifically designed for branched infrastructure structures. This advanced method enabled precise tracking of wagon flow distribution across multiple interconnected routes. As baseline inputs for the predictive modeling, section speeds were set at 47.5 km/h for through trains and 45 km/h for local trains, representing a conservative 5 % difference, whereas retrospective analysis of stable operational periods in Ukraine shows actual variations from 50 km/h to 70 km/h and higher. The locomotive-hour to wagon-hour equivalence coefficient was fixed at 375 to ensure precise technological balancing within the objective function. The digital simulation yielded two distinct TFP variants: the baseline approach resulted in 16 train formation destinations, while the speed-differentiated model expanded the plan to 17 optimal destinations. Comparative analysis demonstrates that post-factum adjustment of a pre-calculated plan provides only nominal cost reductions. In contrast, direct proactive integration of train categorization into the optimization algorithm substantially alters the routing structure, ensuring a net technological savings of 4. 5% in total equivalent wagon-hour expenditures. The experimental results prove that speed differentiation during automated calculation brings operational estimates closer to real conditions and uncovers internal capacity reserves. Under ongoing industry digitalization, the dynamic determination of these parameters will further enhance calculation accuracy and TFP quality, making the developed algorithm highly recommended for modern transportation planning systems. |
